On July 30th, it came to the attention of the Blue Lake Township Board that Camp Pendalouan has contracted with the State of Michigan, to house Seasonal Agricultural Farm workers that test positive for COVID-19, but are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic but do not require hospitalization. The contract period is from August 4, 2020 to November 1, 2020.
This was a multi-organization effort between the State of Michigan (Governor’s Office), MDHHS, and 4 Health Departments (Kent, Ottawa, Allegan, Muskegon) to serve the needs of the Seasonal Agricultural Farm worker community in dealing with the COVID-19 crisis.
The campers will come from Kent, Ottawa, Allegan, Muskegon and possibly other counties. They will spend 10 days of their self-isolating (CDC recommendation) at Camp Pendalouan. While they are at the camp, they will be allowed to experience the camp life by using all the facilities. This will include the waterfront for swimming, fishing and any other available camp amenities. Life Guards will be supplied by the camp.
The ultimate goal is to have a safe place for these displaced individuals to be housed while self-isolating for the 10 days. The Seasonal Agricultural workers are an integral part of our food supply and they will return to work at the respective farms after the self-isolation.
